Membership

WHO MAY JOIN

Unlike most financial institutions which serve the general public, the credit union is organized under a federal charter to provide services to a specific field of membership which consists of people having a common bond. C-B-W’s primary common bond field of membership is the employees of schools in Cambria, Bedford and Somerset counties and members of their immediate families who reside within the three county area. Exceptions have been made for certain non-school organizations which have been admitted to the credit union as a result of special expansions of the original charter.

HOW TO JOIN

Join by completing a membership card and depositing at least $25.00 into a savings account. Membership applications may be obtained by visiting the credit union, by telephone, by requests through the mail, or by completing an online application. Applications for membership are approved by the Board of Directors. Membership benefits remain valid even if you move, retire or leave the employment of the membership field. C-B-W subscribes to the concept of “Once a member, always a member”. However, an account cannot be reopened after you have closed your account and left the field of membership.

USA PATRIOT ACT

To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, the USA Patriot Act of 2001 requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. What that means to you: When you open an account, we will ask you for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your drivers license or other identifying documents.

FAMILY MEMBERS

Once you are a member your spouse, children, sisters, brothers, grandparents and grandchildren may become members of C-B-W by being added to your account or by establishing a separate account.  Family members may retain their membership even in the event your account is subsequently closed.
